California's newest hysterical monument

Crockett Sugar Caverns has been hailed as the 15th (or so) wonder of the unnatural world. It's at least in the top 100. It is said to lay under Crockett, California, the home of C&H sugar.  It is unknown whether the caverns were created from the mass spillage from years of dropping sugar being loaded onto trucks and rail cars, percolating down through the soil during rains, or if it formed naturally by some strange, unexplained process.  Nevertheless there it is. Closed now for safety reasons, locals have many stories from their youth giving light to its heritage. It is legendary among those that have seen it.

  • Labor laws were lax in the early days of mining the caverns.
